Don’t Forget to Vote by November 5!

This November’s election will mark the first time voters get to elect representatives to the Chicago Board of Education! The Board of Education is responsible for major education decisions in Chicago, including budgets, policies, and various agreements. Essentially, the Board governs education in the city.

How Does the Board Impact Charter Schools?

Many of the board’s decisions directly impact charter schools, including:

  • Whether a charter school is renewed, established, or closed

  • Upholding school performance standards districtwide

  • Evaluations determining compliance regarding academic, financial, and operational performance

  • School funding decisions and priorities that influence our school budgets

Who we elect to the Board has an impact on every school in Chicago. You can learn more about your district's candidates in this voter guide by WBEZ, Chicago Sun-Times, and Chalkbeat.

Upcoming Candidate Forums

School board candidate forums are happening across the city and are excellent ways to engage with the candidates, ask questions, and advocate for the issues that matter most to you and your family.

Charter advocates are hosting two upcoming forums:

  • Districts 7 and 8 at Catalyst Maria Charter School on Tuesday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m.

  • District 10 at Gary Comer Youth Center on Tuesday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m., co-sponsored by Distinctive Schools and Art In Motion
